IMAGINATIVE LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS

By Deni Je

Welcome to denije.com

Painting has been my passion since I was a child until now as a painting lecturer at ISI Yogyakarta (The Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta). Almost all aspects of my life are related to painting, including as a content creator for YouTube Painting Explorer.

My name is Deni Je, I have stated my ambition to be a painter since my elementary school teacher in grade 1 asked me what my dream was. This desire cannot be separated from my father who is also a feather mosaic painter. He was also my first drawing teacher.

Born in a rural area on the slopes of Mount Perahu Indonesia, June 21, 1973, I became familiar with the beauty of natural scenery. I always painted its charm, at that time in a day I could finish a painting book that my mother bought me.

Of course I also studied other objects. Moreover, when I studied painting at ISI Yogyakarta in 1997, I tried to explore various techniques and styles.

However, in that visual wandering, landscape objects continued to appear and appear in my mind to be executed. This includes my passion in en plein air, painting landscapes directly at the location concerned.

My passion for reading aesthetic books and observing art history makes me dissatisfied if the scenery is only recorded as it is. For that, I try to explore the elements of shadow and light. Likewise, the color no longer refers to the score of the landscape photo, but more as a play of taste.

With such an imaginative landscape style, a pleasant and calming atmosphere emerges in the space displaying the paintings. However, the paintings can sometimes provoke contemplation.

Now, acrylic paint on canvas is my favorite medium. The bright colors and practicality make working easier and more interesting. Previously, I often used watercolors. The unexpected effects make the painting process exciting. However, for large sizes, watercolors require extra effort. In the past, oil paint was a favorite material. Its slow-drying nature allows for a variety of techniques. However, oil paint is the painting material with the strongest odor. The three series of paintings with various materials – namely acrylic paint, watercolor, and oil paint – can be found on this website.

I was born into a Muslim family and live in a country where the majority of the population is Muslim; although the socio-political values that developed are mostly from the West. Therefore, the tension between the two often appears in the topics of my paintings.

Please enjoy. If you have any opinions or questions, do not hesitate to contact. Thank you. []
