Welcome to denije.com
You are with me, Deni Je, an artist who actively creates paintings on a metaphorical approach. For this reason, I call them ‘Metaphor Paintings’.
‘Metaphor Paintings’ use certain objects to convey another certain meanings. The phrase, in my paintings, includes various types of visual figures of speech, which is visual language to express an idea.
This passion for visual language cannot be separated from my enjoyment of reading books and following the news, whether on art, politics, social or religious issues.
Painting has been my passion since childhood until now as a painting lecturer at ISI Yogyakarta. Almost all aspects of my life are related to painting, including as a Painting Explorer Youtube content creator.
I have aspired to be a painter since my elementary school teacher in grade 1 asked me about my future dreams. This desire is inseparable from my father who is also a feather mosaic painter. He also became my first drawing teacher.
Born in the rural area in the slopes of Mount Perahu Indonesia, June 21, 1973, I am familiar with the beauty of natural scenery. I always painted its charm, at that time in a day I could finish one drawing book bought by my mother.
Therefore, I often work on these metaphorical objects in the context of landscapes that tend to be imaginative.
I tried to learn more about painting by studying painting at ISI Yogyakarta in 1997. Then, I explored art discourse through lectures in Performing and Fine Arts Studies, UGM Postgraduate Program from 2010 to 2012.
Now, acrylic paint on canvas is my favorite medium. The bright colors and practicality make creating art easier and more interesting. Previously, I often used watercolors. The unexpected effect makes the painting process exciting. However, for large sizes, watercolor require extra effort. In the past, oil paint was a favorite material. Its slow-drying properties made it possible to realize a variety of techniques. However, oil paint is the art material with the strongest smell. The three series of paintings using these various materials – namely acrylic paint, watercolor, and oil paint – can be found on this website.
Please enjoy. If you have any opinions or questions, do not hesitate to contact. Thank you. []
