Painting has been my passion since I was a child until now as a painting lecturer at ISI Yogyakarta (The Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta). Almost all aspects of my life are related to painting, including as a content creator for YouTube Painting Explorer.
My name is Deni Je, I have stated my ambition to be a painter since my elementary school teacher in grade 1 asked me what my dream was. This desire cannot be separated from my father who is also a feather mosaic painter. He was also my first drawing teacher.
Series
These paintings with acrylic paint on canvas are the latest series that capture my ideas about imaginative landscapes. My tendency to explore light and shadow appears in this series. I use the bright colors of acrylic paint to create colorful objects that do not refer to realistic nature. []
Before using acrylic, I often used watercolor to express my ideas about landscape painting. The spontaneous effect of watercolor is a special attraction during the process of creating paintings. Therefore, I often record the process and upload the videos on the Painting Explorer YouTube channel. Watercolor is also practical when used to paint landscapes en plein air. []
When I was a painting student at ISI Yogyakarta (The Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta) and several years after graduating, I often used oil paint to create my works. I often developed imaginative landscapes with ambiguous figure elements using this material. The elastic and slow-drying nature of oil paint promises a variety of techniques that can be explored. Unfortunately, oil paint has a pungent chemical odor. []
